Save the bees - Steampunk Geometric honeycomb and clockwork bee necklace

My steampunk jewellery and sculptures are influenced by the sub-genre of science fiction with its prominent elements of fictional technological inventions. I particularly like the evocative design and outlook of the neo-victorian style. The look and technology of the Victorian era sitting alongside impossible machinery or fantastic creatures is inspiring. I use vintage and antique clock and watch parts, movements and cogs for my creations, along with vintaj brass and sterling silver charms, chains and findings.

This necklace is made from a brass hexagon charm and a tiny bee bulb sculpture. It is held together with a gold plated chain with lobster clasp and extender chain and finished with a small bee charm. Necklace measures 50cm in length.

Sadly, our bumblebees are in decline because of changes in agricultural practices that have largely removed flowers from the landscape, leaving the bumblebees with little to feed upon. Most UK species have declined greatly in recent years, and two have become extinct in the UK since 1940.

Fortunately, there is much that can be done to benefit bumblebees. At the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, they work to raise awareness of the plight of the bumblebee amongst the general public. In particular, they provide information about bumblebees and work with farmers to help them farm in ways which are sympathetic to bees.
